Bellingham Farmers Market Now Accepting Food Stamps - Fri, 08/22/2008
The Bellingham Farmers Market is now accepting Basic Food benefits aka Food Stamps! It has taken years of hard work on behalf of individuals, farmers, the Whatcom Anti-Hunger Coalition and local non-profits to make this a reality. Basic Food recipients can use their benefits at the Wednesday or Saturday Markets. Simply go to the main Market booth where t-shirts and other Bellingham Farmers Market merchandise are sold to obtain tokens. The same rules about what can be purchased with Basic Food Benefits apply at the Farmers Market (i.e. no prepared food intended to be eaten on site and no non-food items.)

Reception to Thank Legislators - Mon, 08/11/2008
ICHC is hosting a reception Tuesday, August 8 at 3:00 PM to thank Sen. Harriet Spanel and Reps. Kelli Linville, Jeff Morris, and Dave Quall for their support of increased funding for adult dental services during the 2008 legislative session. The event is open to the public. These 4 local legislators voted for budget appropriations bill ESHB 2687 that provided the Health Care Authority a one-time $2 million allocation to be distributed through grants to community health centers. ICHC was recently awarded a $200,000 grant from these funds to provide preventive, restorative, therapeutic dental services to adults at its Bellingham location and at the new Ferndale facility, which we hope to open in October. Please join us in thanking our legislators for their support!
